Volunteer Activities

Joy and I support the following with our time, talents, and treasures:

AIDS Services Foundation, Irvine, Los Angeles, & Riverside, CA

Joy and I have participated in AIDS Walks, have organized walking teams through church and with our friends and colleagues, and have helped to raise over $2,500 in the past three years. Most recently, we have begun to work this support through the Whittier Rio Hondo AIDS Project (WRHAP).

African Children's Choir

Hanna and CJ, along with Joy and I, support Eric, one of the children who has performed with and is supported by the African Children's Choir. I encourage you to check out their website to see when the choir will perform near you, or see their video on YouTube.

Cure Autism Now Foundation

Joy and I have actively supported local fund raisers for the Cure Autism Now Foundation. Our relationship with Cure Autism Now has stemmed from our involvement with Progressive Resources in Santa Fe Springs and the Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center (ELARC).

Intercommunity Counseling Center, Whittier, CA

Joy and I are members of the Board of Directors for the Intercommunity Counseling Center; I also serve as the vice president of the board. Its mission is "to provide professional counseling, sensitive to the needs of clients of every race, creed, and color to mee the diversified needs of the Whittier community and surrounding areas." ICC respects the importance of religion, but does not impose religious beliefs.

The National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA)

Joy and I are both members of multiple professional associations in student affairs. That said, our home is with NASPA and we are proud to support the NASPA Foundation.

Preparing for a Degree (PFD)

Preparing for a Degree, or PFD, works with under-priveleged youth in the greater Long Beach area, Whittier, and parts of Orange County. 100% of the students who have completed the program have gained acceptance into colleges or universities, and many have gained acceptance into highly prestigious schools. Sean Washington is the program's director; Joy and I serve on the Board of Directors.

St. Andrew Lutheran Church

These days, it is not easy to find an intergenerational church committed to social justice and inclusivity. St. Andrew Lutheran is one such church. At St. Andrew, we are people of prayer, faithful witnesses, life-long learners, and world servants for Christ.

The following are some of the organizations that Joy and I support financially:
